Survivorship Celebration

  • Sunday, June 2nd was National Cancer Survivors Day. I hope that many of you were able to participate in Survivorship Celebrations in your area. Greater Baltimore Medical Center had a wonderful afternoon filled with inspiring messages of hope. Jamie Costello of WMAR-TV/ABC2 spoke of his experience as a parent of a young cancer survivor. Malcolm Berman of the Malcolm & Sandra Berman Cancer Institute spoke of his journey as a survivor. He is celebrating 10 years! Congratulations Malcolm! Another highlight was the Grace United Methodist Church hand-bell choir. “Making A Difference” awards were given in memory of Joyce Ramirez and Susan Murphy. The celebration was attended by over 300 survivors, the largest group of survivors to-date. That says so much for the advances in cancer treatments and the wonderful care given by our healthcare professionals, who work so hard on our behalf.

This year’s theme was based on The Starfish Story. If you don’t know The Starfish Story, it is worth a few minutes to find and read. The Starfish Story was adapted from “The Star Thrower” by Loren Eiseley.
